A hay cart was a large rural cart that was used for many purposes, including transport of straw, hay and field produce. They were also used to transport logs from the forest by removing the sides (‘lojtre’). Before the war, they were also used to transport people, who hitched a ride on pilgrimages and excursions. For these occasions the cart was washed and decorated, especially when it carried a bride’s trousseau.
